Battle of Saratoga (1777)
A turning point in the American Revolutionary War. Under the command of British General John "Gentleman Johnny" Burgoyne, 7000 British troops surrendered to American General Horatio Gates at Saratoga, New York. The American victory at Saratoga convinced France to support the American cause with troops, money, and naval power.

Valley Forge 1777-1778
Winter camp in Pennsylvania for the Continental Army during the winter of 1777-1778. Due to the harsh winter, disease, and starvation General Washington lost 1/3 of his men during the winter months. Despite the setbacks at Valley Forge General Washington was able to keep his troops from desertion and successfully used the winter months to properly train the Continental Army into a real British style fighting force.
