Second Continental Congress (1775 - 1783)
- The Congress voted to raise a colonial Continental Army; chose Virginia delegate General George Washington to lead newly formed army.
- Sent the Olive Branch Petition to King of England George III proclaiming a desire for peace and an acknowledgment of rights as British subjects. King George III refused to accept the petition.
