Regional economic and political differences among state delegates at the Constitutional Convention led to conflicts over the formation of the legislative branch. Debates over representation and slavery splintered the convention. Debates and compromises will resolve these disputes in forming the new federal government. However, the issue slavery will continue to divide the nation and set it on path to eventual civil war.
